Nobody (2021): A Brutal Action
Thriller
"Nobody" is a high-octane action thriller
that follows the life of a seemingly ordinary man who turns out to have a dark
past. Directed by Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry) and written by
Derek Kolstad (creator of John Wick), the film delivers intense
action sequences and brutal fight scenes.
The Story of Nobody (2021)
A Boring Life with a Hidden Past
Hutch
Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) is a mild-mannered family man living in the suburbs. He
has a boring, repetitive life—working in his father-in-law's metal
fabrication company, ignoring his wife's lack of affection, and tolerating his
teenage son's disrespect.
One night, burglars
break into his house, threatening his family. Hutch has an opportunity to
stop them but chooses not to fight back, much to his son's disappointment. The
incident makes Hutch look weak and pathetic, even though he has hidden
skills that no one knows about.
The Switch Flips: Hutch’s Return to Violence
After the
robbery, Hutch learns that the burglars took his daughter's kitty-cat
bracelet, pushing him over the edge. He tracks them down, but instead of
punishing them, he realizes they are a struggling couple with a sick baby.
Frustrated
and craving an outlet for his rage, Hutch boards a city bus, where he
finally finds the perfect excuse for violence. A group of drunken Russian
gangsters harass a young woman, and Hutch savagely beats them to a pulp
in a brutal hand-to-hand fight.
The Russian Mafia Comes After Hutch
Unbeknownst
to Hutch, one of the men he brutally injured on the bus is the brother of Yulian
Kuznetsov (Aleksei Serebryakov), a dangerous Russian crime lord. Yulian,
furious over his brother’s injuries, orders his men to hunt Hutch down.
Yulian’s
goons attack Hutch at his home, but he effortlessly kills all of them.
Realizing that his family is now in danger, he sends his wife and kids away
before burning his own house down to erase any trace of himself.
Hutch’s Secret Identity Revealed
Through
flashbacks and phone calls, we learn that Hutch was once an elite assassin
known as an "Auditor"—a government agent who was sent to erase
people too dangerous for the system to handle. He retired to live a normal
life, but deep down, he missed the thrill of violence.
With his
past now exposed, Hutch prepares for an all-out war against Yulian and his army
of gangsters.
The Final Showdown: A Warehouse of Death
Hutch lures
Yulian and his men to his father-in-law’s abandoned warehouse, setting
up a series of deadly traps and arming himself to the teeth. Just as the
Russian gangsters attack, Hutch gets unexpected backup from:
- His father, David Mansell
(Christopher Lloyd)
– A retired FBI agent who proves he is still lethal with a shotgun.
- His half-brother, Harry (RZA) – A skilled sniper who helps
take down Yulian’s men.
Together,
they unleash absolute carnage, killing every last Russian gangster in an
epic battle filled with gunfights, explosions, and hand-to-hand combat.
How Does Nobody End?
After
killing Yulian in a final gunfight, Hutch and his allies walk away
victorious. The police arrest him, but a mysterious phone call
quickly gets him released.
Months
later, Hutch and his wife are looking for a new house, seemingly trying
to live a normal life again. However, when Hutch receives a call during the
house tour, his old life seems far from over, hinting at a sequel.
In a mid-credits
scene, Hutch’s father and brother drive off with a huge stash of weapons,
suggesting more action-packed missions in the future.
